Symphytum x uplandicum. Comfrey is an all-around perennial rock star in the permaculture world (and in your food forest). It’s deep tap roots bring important nutrients up to the leaves, which can then be harvested for use in compost, compost teas, or just chopped and dropped right on to the top of garden beds. Medicinally, comfrey root is an amazing healer, used externally to heal wounds and even speed healing of broken bones.

This variety does not spread as aggressively as standard comfrey, although once planted it will return in perpetuity even after harvesting it for the roots. Can be easily propagated you root division.
